Nick the Community Minstrel

Living on the outskirts of Oxford as I do, it is a great pleasure to play for the diverse groups and individuals of this grand old city. During the week I am often engaged by Retirement Homes and Day-care Centres of various kinds. I am just as happy playing on a recreation ground for a community event as I am tickling the ivories on the sculpted lawns of an Oxford College. I take particular

pleasure in providing ragtime specialities and sing-a-longs for Alzheimer patients, who seem to derive the maximum amount of joy possible singing the Good Old Good Ones - as Louis Armstrong used to put it.

When not playing for community singing, it seems that ragtime, classic jazz and sometimes a bit of boogie-woogie are the perfect accompaniment for any fete, opening ceremony or general celebration.  Of course, wherever the event is taking place, even if there is no electrical point available, the show will go on thanks to my battery driven electric piano which sounds almost as good as the real thing!
